Yay for finding another MLB birthday buddy! He’s joining Lance Berkman. That’s all. Happy Day of Conception yesterday, boys! :)

Farmer’s Wife Quilt - Week 1

I recently purchased the book The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt: Letter’s From 1920’s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired on Amazon (I know, yuk it up…two of my not favorite things, farms and wives). I keep seeing the book itself, as well as quilt blocks from the book, on Pinterest and throughout the quilting blogosphere. So finally I bit the bullet and my mom bought it.

Since I’m trying to budget my money, I’m making it a point to use only fabrics I currently have to complete the blocks. Okay, fine, I picked up a yard of Robert Kauffman white fabric from the Kona Solids collection to use as accent color. But that’s it.

I’ve combined 12 fat quarters from the Moda Cape Ann collection, 8 fat quarters from a blue/green/flowery/leafy bundle I bought on my vacation to Utah, and a few random fat quarters I’ve collected to come up with this grouping of colors and patterns.

Tonight I knocked out five of the first six blocks alphabetically.

1. Attic Windows

2. Autumn Tints

3. Skipped. Not ready to sew a curve yet. ;)

4. Basket Weave

5. Bat Wings

6. Big Dipper

I’m hoping this quilt will break up the monotony of sewing quilts that have a pattern, as each 6” block is different. That’s why I have so many projects going, I can only sew half hexagons together for so long before I go crazy. Plus, you’re not really a quilter unless you’ve got a thousand things going on.  I’m going to try to get a few blocks done weekly, then blog about it to keep myself accountable.

Sorry if you’re bored.

Actually, I’m not.

5 down, 106 to go!
